If you are ovulating, then it only means that you are at higher chances of getting pregnant. Couples who find it difficult to rear a child knows how important it is to accurately predict ovulation, as it is the best time to get pregnant.
There are different ways to know whether a woman is ovulating or not. One of the most common methods is called the calendar method and it is based on a woman?s 28-day menstrual cycle. This method looks more like a chart; it shows you when you had your last menstrual cycle and when?s your next. Doctors believe that ovulation happens from Day 14 to Day 19 on your chart. Note that Day 1 is the first day of your menstrual cycle.
To know which Day 14 is, you have to know when the first day of your last menstruation was. That?s the first day of your menstrual cycle as well. Now count 28 days from that date and that becomes your full cycle. The 29th day is the start of the next cycle. So that?s Day 1 again. So from Day 1, count 14 days forward. For five days after Day 14, you are supposed to be ovulating.
However, this method may not work for women who have irregular menstrual cycles since they don?t follow the usual 28-day cycle. As such, it can either be longer or shorter for them. If this is the case for you, then you can try other methods such as checking your body?s signals or testing your hormonal levels.
Another good method to predict ovulation is by getting your basal body temperature. Here, you get to determine the rise and fall in your temperature. A few days after ovulation, the temperature of a woman?s body will rise. So when the special thermometer reports that, you know that you?re well within the ovulation period. That then, is the perfect time to have a baby. This is almost the same thing as checking your hormonal levels, although another instrument is used to measure that.
There is yet another method and it involves checking one?s vaginal discharge. An ovulating woman tends to experience cervical mucus discharge. It is characterized by the clear, stretchy, and slippery substance that is very similar to egg whites. When you see that, then you know you?re ovulating.
